YOUR OCEAN HOME - NOVEMBER 2010

within your slumber
I'll wait till you come back
you've set foot upon the lands
but you'll be mine in the end

marry with good will
let her bear your little children
I hope they are strong ones
I hope you'll hold their brittle hands

dry the tears they weep
and let them keep you warm
you know you'll only sleep
in my cold velvet arms

let your marionettes dance
on a song of romance
on someone else's song of love
say it is good enough

make her sigh
all the gasps of delight
slide in her arms and kisses
as if it's where your heart is

parade with your bride
her veil a crispy white
it frames her pretty face
like the foam on my waves

make your grand promises
to your princesses
you know that you'll break them
but you'll never confess it

home is where the heart is
lie in arms you'd rather miss
you say you lead a good life
but you want nobody's wife

parade with your pride
write your riddles smitten
they'll fade with the tide
and I've got oceans of time

you know it's home
it's still all home
it's just home when you see the sea
that's why your heart belongs to me

you know it's home
it's still all home
I'm your home, I am the sea
you're only home when you're with me

you know it's home
it's still all home
you'll come back to my heart of blue
so I'll be the death of you

you know your home
it's still all home
you'll rush back to my bed
so I'll be your death

(ingredients: piano vocals, a humming singing saw vocal with a bit of echo, a low cello choir, an aha slide choir going up and down, throat percussion, a wave like exhale puffing with a little echo, an inhaling ah vocal, a background ha-ha vocal to go against the tide, a sea sample, a lead vocal, a good microphone)

MARE SONG - AUGUST 2010

you've called me
from the ninth gate
over the heavens and the hills
I ate the mountains
breached the tall walls
to come and bring you my thrill

I'm the darkness in your heart
make you say hurtful things
I've turned the stalk into an art
you'll never sleep without me

over the seven seas
I've come and found you
through the bleak and barren lands
throughout the six skies
I'll be around you
I'll give you my harms and hands

in your cold blue dead man's eyes
behold me I'll astound you
let's suffocate and paralyse
smile, my realm surrounds you

oh oh oh oh oh
wherever you go I'll be
oh oh oh oh oh
you can't hide from me

through the five deserts
I've come for you
to take you on a stroll
over the tree tops
the two of us go
now I'm the one that owns your soul

I prepare your dead man's bed
ride your chest when you sleep
I'll let you wake in rivers sweat
shiver, shaken you'll be

oh oh oh oh oh
wherever you go I'll be
oh oh oh oh oh
you can't hide from me

I am the white mare
with the red sling
make your hair entangled thread
I am your daymare
and your nightdream
until you take your last breath

oh oh oh oh oh
wherever you go I'll be
oh oh oh oh oh
you can't hide from me

I am the white mare
with the red sling
make your locks entangled thread
I am your daymare
and your nightdream
until you take your last breath

oh oh oh oh oh
wherever you hide I see
in the daylight or the night time
you'll never get away from me!

(ingredients: a handful of vocal trumpets, a clarinet, a guitar E-string, a grunt, a pan lid and two pens, a pair of clapping hands, a can with matches and a finger tap, a wow wow gasp, a lead vocal, a crappy headset microphone)

TIP TOE (WHO'S YOUR DADDY NOW) - AUGUST 2010

thanks, I am glad you're not my dad
squint those eyes
thanks, I'm so glad you're not my dad
full of despise

but when you sleep the nightmares creep

oh thanks, I am glad you're not my dad
malicious and proud
thanks, I'm so glad you're not my dad
curse and shout

but on these grounds you won't be found

I only tip toe around when I dance
not for you, no chance!

thanks, I'm so glad you're not my dad
just bark
thank you, I'm glad you're not my dad
you're a shark

oh show your teeth, I gut, you bleed

I only tip toe around when I dance
not for you, no chance!

so tip toe I turn to show you in turn
my little middle finger while I say
who's your daddy now?! (3x)
(I dance, I dance)
who's your daddy now?! (3x)

so tip toe I turn to show you in turn
my little middle finger while I say
who's your daddy now?! (3x)
and dance away

(ingredients: a can with a finger tap and a nail, percussion vocals, a couple of hums, a running dada pam pam choir, one dancing statement, a lead vocal, a crappy headset microphone)

THE WOOD SIGHS - AUGUST 2010

upon the fallen leaves
it rustles and crackles
it whispers and it lisps
licks it's lips

the shadows grow and merge
with rampant thoughts
I listen in the dark
where everything hides

the wood sighs
the wood sighs
all tales are told
never grow old

in flickering dancing
the world outside fades
embracing me with shadow play
you're bigger than the night

the wood sighs
the wood sighs
and all the tales are told
and never grow old

upon the fallen leaves
we light up the stars
and might I vanish during day
I'm asleep on your grave

the wood sighs
the wood sighs
all the tears are sold
and never grow old

upon the fallen leaves
we light up the stars
and might I vanish
I've gone with you

the wood sighs
the wood sighs
in all the tales told
we never grow old

(ingredients: a guitar body drum, a creaking chair, a walk through the forest, a bunch of sighs, a wood pecker, a can with mint leaves, a far bass drum, a lead vocal, a fire, a crappy headset microphone)

FUNERAL SPEECH - FEBRUARY 2011

you've been dead to me for so long
that I almost believe you never existed
and finally the day has come
now you're truly gone and dead to everyone

and maybe, some day soon
I can see my sister
without thinking about you
and what you've done to her

oh, there will be no more grief
the best thing you ever did was leave
that you denied your fatherhood
you know that's actually been good for me

and maybe, some day soon
I can see my sisters
without thinking about you
and all the hurt

oh, it's a beautiful spring
we've got animal crackers and caramel fingers
oh, it's a beautiful day
we'll scatter your memory like your ashes

and we'll forget about you
we'll forget about you (we'll be fine - in the sun)
we'll forget about you (we'll be fine - in the sun)
forget about you
we'll be fine

(ingredients: a mmba choir, a guitar with a lowered E-string, a triplet vocal, a contra melody vocal, bird-like whistling and some cheers, a lead vocal and a good microphone, a new computer - my dear granny puter from 2000, may you rest in peace -)

NO CAN DO - OCTOBER 2010

no pink envelopes
and no fountain pen blue,
no letters in rhyme,
no cologne, no perfume,
no straight teeth, no smiles,
not your point of view,
not your little heart,
will do it for you

no coffee, no tea,
no swarovski crystals,
no serenades, poetry,
long distance calls,
no moon and no stars
and no pose or dance move,
not your little heart,
will do it for you

oh, you've wasted so long boy
oh, don't you know what's wrong boy?
oh, don't you see the truth?
you better don't love me
when I don't love you

no painted portraits,
no pleading demands,
no red dripping roses,
no forcing hands,
not your credit card
and no chocolate fondue,
not your bleeding heart,
will do it for you

oh, you've wasted so long boy
oh, don't you know what's wrong boy?
oh, your blues are on you
you're stupid to love me
cos I don't love you

no sunshine, no heat wave,
no blossoms, no bloom,
no avalanche, icicles,
wisdom or youth,
no thunder storms, lightning bolts,
oceans of truth,
not your little heart,
will do it for you

oh, you're pretty dumb boy
oh, don't you know what's wrong boy?
oh, cos you know it's true
it's silly you love me
if I don't love you

oh, you're pretty dumb boy
oh, can't you see what's wrong boy?
oh, your blues are on you
you better don't love me
cos I don't love you

no milk and no ice cream,
no truffles, no trout,
no scaffold, shout, scream,
no conviction or doubt,
no styro foam, spare parts,
no epoxy glue,
not your little heart,
will do it for you

oh, you've wasted so long boy
oh, don't you know what's wrong boy?
oh, don't you see it's true?
it's silly you love me
if I don't love you

oh, you idiot dumb boy
oh, can't you see what's wrong boy?
oh, your blues are on you
don't ask me to love you
cos I'll never do

JUST LIKE YOU (YAY YAY) - OCTOBER 2010

come out and play with me
brighten the nights, shake the dust
frighten the day with me
Arcadia waits for us

let's turn the lights off in all the homes
steal the colours of kaleidoscopes

come with me, I am just like you
cold with the morning dew
and we show up in the silver noon
to go into the blue

rolling rainbow marbles
over the floor
kidnapping babies
from the balcony doors

fly them like kites in a thunder storm
lose their shadows in strangers' dorms

come along, I am just like you
when I grow up I'll be ten
let's show up in the silver noon
are you ready to crow again?

play the pan flute and
the dew in spider webs
planting cuckoo eggs
in childrens' beds

pick up our friends when our trail is cold
bowl with their heads when they get too old

when I grow up I'll be just like you
when I grow up I'll be ten
then I'll show up in the silver noon
ready to crow again

(I like you)
blowing up fireflies
(I like you)
spreading striped lies
getting drunk on
(I like you)
strawberry rum
riding killer whales
(I like you)
pulling out finger nails

when I grow up I'll be just like you
(I like you)
when I grow up I'll be just
(I like you)
I like you

(ingredients: music boxes, a rattle, a marble, a prr, a lip plop, a humming choir, a tamtam choir, a lead vocal, a good microphone)

THE WAIL (YOU LEFT ME) - SEPTEMBER 2010

when I woke up
you weren't there
when I woke
I found a lock of your hair

my baby you left me
you don't want me no more?
why baby, you left me?
you don't love me no more?

when I got up and
as I got dressed
petrified I was
I stared at your glass eye under the bed

I wavered downstairs
the house lay in rubble
the clock stood still
oh there must have been trouble

my baby you left me
you don't love me no more?
why baby, you left me?
you don't love me no more?

when I ran past
the river's bed
I saw you float by
looking down - blood on your head

bare foot in the mud - I
I dragged you I dragged
you're not for 'gator's jaws oh
why had the river asked for your head?

my baby you left me
you can't love me no more
why baby, you left me?
you can't love me no more

when I woke up
I knew you were dead
your silver ring, your glass eye - salt
from the tears that I'd shed

why baby, you left me?
you can't love me no more
why baby, you left me?
you can't love me no more

no, you can't love me no more (8x)
no, you can't love me

my baby, you left me (3x)
why baby, you left me? (3x)
bye baby, you left

(ingredients: a violin choir, a singing saw vocal, a bunch of wailers, an accidental metronome remnant, a lead vocal, a good microphone)

HOLD ME - AUGUST 2010

you say you will stay with me
but your finger tells a lie
maybe you may save me
stain your hands inside my calloused heart

hold me
we are shattered to pieces
hold me oh I

I'm waiting in the wreckage
below our broken feet
waiting in the ravage
for your eyes to meet me again

hate me when you crave me
oh you tinge me by my side
lover you aren't above hurt
cos you linger where I strife

hold me
we are shattered to pieces
hold me oh I

I'm waiting in the wreckage
of your crushed teeth
waiting in the ravage
for your spine to split in three

but my feet are bound at the door
and I scream and shout
as the snow pours in my mouth

hold me
we are shattered to pieces
hold me oh I

I'm waiting in the wreckage
to come clean
waiting for the rubble
to tumble over me

maybe you may save me
pour your heart inside my broken eyes
maybe you may save me
but your fingers tell a lie

(ingredients: a clarinet, a guitar body drum, two guitar snare scratches, a bunch of percussion vocals, a glass of water and a wacom tablet pen, a mew, a tudu hum and doom choir, a lead vocal, a crappy headset microphone)

FADING AWAY - NOVEMBER 2010

babe, thanks for the romance
don't know if we'll meet again
but I'll go out while I dance
and skinny dip in the south of France

you have been the sweetest lover
soon the pain will be all over
you'll find another pretty date
and your memory of me will fade

oh honey, don't you cry
it's not like I'm saying good bye
although I'm dying
a little every day

oh darling, don't you cry
it's not like I'm saying good bye
it's only a part of life
that is fading away

hey babe don't wait, you're young
send bottled letters in foreign tongues
shower in a waterfall
and eat jellied eels from a London stall

hey babe, you'll be alright
someone else will come by your side
sweep you off of your feet so great
and your memory of me will fade

oh darling, don't you cry
it's not like I'm saying good bye
you know we're dying
a little every day

oh darling, don't you cry
it's not like I'm saying good bye
I'm just a part of life
that will be fading away

hey babe, you'll be just fine
there are plenty of others for you in line
don't live your life in shades of grey
if it can be a rainbow unicorn buffet

hitch a ride to Spain
make love on a down town train
kiss a stranger in chinatown
wear golden gloves and a pretty gown

oh darling, don't you cry
it's not like I'm saying good bye
everyone's dying
a little every day

oh darling, don't you cry
it's not like I'm saying good bye
just make sure you live your life
before it's fading away

(ingredients: three background loop vocals singing huudu-tudu-tudu and huudu-pow-pow, a nininininininininini-wa-wa vocal, a poom-poom-bass vocal, a prr prr syncopation vocal, about eleven choir vocals, four pairs of clapping hands, throat and tongue clacking percussion, a rice-in-can samba shaker, a clarinet for multiple lines and syncopation, a lead vocal, laughter, a cat snore, a good microphone)

FACES IN LEAVES - DECEMBER 2010

the autumn night is warm
filled with bats and swallow swarm
the field of rye sways - symmetry
beyond; the woods - your cemetery

slowly swings the rocking chair
a breath of whisky in the air
mixed with dust - a melody
circling through the withered leaves

I see faces in leaves
all the places that be
oh they haunt me
and make me think of you

I see faces in leaves
all the arms of the trees
they embrace me
but they can't bring me you

a creaking creeps through the floor boards
your wooden leg lone on the porch
your silver bottle is my friend
til memory lane is desolate

the clouds unfold and they transform
rolling in a thunder storm
the windy sky is thick and heaves
twirls about the withered leaves

I see faces in leaves
in the places that be
oh they haunt me
and make me think of you

I see faces in leaves
all the hands of the trees
they caress me
but they can't bring me you

the autumn night is warm
it fills my head, swallows me whole
I feel my eyes sway - symmetry
beyond; the woods - your cemetery

the autumn night is warm
I'm rolling like a thunder storm
the windy sky is thick, I heave
I twirl around the withered leaves

I see faces in leaves
in all the places that be
oh they haunt me
and make me think of you

I see faces in leaves
and all the arms of the trees
they embrace me
but they, they can't bring me you

I see faces in leaves
all the places that be
oh they haunt me
and make me think of you

I see faces in leaves
all the branches of the trees
they embrace me
but they can't bring me you

(ingredients: Mei Ling's squeaky toilet door, a glass water bottle flute, a finger harp, a mmmba choir, a tududududu choir, a sigh and a whistle, a lead vocal, a rustling leaves sample, a bird wing sample, a bats sample, a cricket field sample, a sample of one thunder drum, a good microphone)

WAKE UP - SEPTEMBER 2010

the rain outside
stains the window
it's warm inside
I watch the wind blow
steady beats
the batter needs

the rain outside
stains the window
butter in the pan
heat on the stove
then wait a little while
pancakes on a pile oh

sorry but I'm not ready to let you go
I made pancakes and I just wanted to let you know

wake up, wake up
you are not sleeping
I know

wake up, wake up
it is so silent
when you're not home

the rain inside
comes from my eyes
leaves tracks when it slides
off my cheeck bones
it flows disguised
as mascara stripes

sorry but I'm not ready to let you go
I made tea and I just wanted to let you know

wake up, wake up
you lay so still
alone

but wake up, wake up
I can't stop weeping
when you're not home

the rain outside
stains the window
it's warm inside
I watch the wind blow
I cook and bake
throughout your wake

the rain outside
stains the window
the rain outside

(ingredients: tap, water drops, rice dropping in a pan, pancake batter, whisk, butter, fire, the actual process of making pancakes, a wooden spoon and a pan for percussion, cutlery percussion, cupboard percussion, pen click percussion, an aah choir that hums as well, tam tam tam prr vocal, breath, a kettle with boiling water, a lead vocal, rain, a good microphone with an extension cord to reach the kitchen)

SHOW ME LIFE - MARCH 2011
(bonus track)

you came from the rivers
of the land of the living
when I walked astray
in the bright of the day

it's a strange embrace
of my quiet pace
and your echoing footstep
with it's fringe grace

roam in time I delay
come here every day
I won't send you away
if you don't ask me to stay

but, could you show me life?
and maybe one day I will dive

I'll peel off those layers
reveil every secret
I'll take you by hand
swift through shadow lands

I'll show you what lies
between the fabrics of life
let us waltz on the twilight
the edge of a knife

roam in time I delay
come here every day
I won't run away
if you don't ask me to stay

but, could you show me life?
and maybe one day I'll dive

oddly, you speak in tongues
of the place I am from
phrase all these words
I never truly heard

so please, show me the world
where the people do go;
your rivers' land life
and maybe, I will dive
maybe, I will dive
maybe
I will

dive

(ingredients: an adapted für Elise music box, Mara's great grand mothers clock, Mr. van de Weerthof's fabulous tubophone, a lead vocal and a good microphone)

RECIPE OF HOW IT CAME TO BE

Once upon a time, on a rainy day, I found an ancient sound editing program (audition 1) hidden on my big old granny computer. I have no idea where it came from, for I had definitely not added it, but it must have been hanging out there for quite some years already.

The program is so old that it doesn't allow much more than simple editing. However, I found that this limitation - with it's modest toys - provided a large playground and endless imagination (while having too many and too detailed toys to play with usually kills all the fun).

Playing around with it, I recorded a voice - with the microphone of my headset - that demanded a choir. So, having no other singers around, I recorded some more. The choir came to live and demanded other instruments.

But I only had two instruments laying around, a clarinet and a guitar. The clarinet I hadn't played for a long time, I never quite mastered playing the guitar and, despite my efforts, I did not find any musicians hidden in any of the cupboards.

For recording, I was stuck to my little bedroom (the wires of the headset are rather short and my old granny computer found unmovable), so I went hamstering about the house and dragged whatever objects that could produce some kind of sound back into the bedroom and then waited for them to tell me what they wanted to do (very rarely I used a sample, found in the webs somewhere or recorded with my mobile phone).

While the words and melodies poured out of my fingers, mouth, nose and ears, I couldn't get myself to stop. I didn't sleep, I didn't eat, the time passed without a glance in the mirror or on the clock.

Practically every night, one could find me imitating percussion, trumpets and singing saws and banging about on household equipment with ...other household equipment (you can view the ingredients below the lyrics of each song), while sitting in my little bedroom, between the pillows.

After a few songs and a few weeks living like that, my cat was fed up by the neglect and resolved to confront me, making me realise that it's actually quite neccessary to eat, sleep and moreover, wash myself (as well as the pillows).

So these days, I put some effort in taking care of the household again. The pillows get their fresh cover on regular basis and I make sure to spend a lot of quality time with my cat. But, occasionally I return to wander the roads of midnight madness to make more music.
